DESCRIPTION
Being a professional voice actor is more than having a great voice. Rookie seiyuu Futaba Ichinose must learn about the hard work, determination, and heart that goes into being the voice behind beloved characters. The work is far from easy and nothing hurts more than the dreaded rejection call, but Futaba works through it to achieve her dream of becoming a big-time seiyuu - except she only has two years to prove to her agency that she's good enough to be one. Luckily, she's not alone! Ichigo Moesaki, a self-claimed princess from Planet Strawberry, and Rin Kohana, a seasoned professional since the age of five, will be at her side when they form the seiyuu unit, Earphones. But even being in a unit won't be enough to guarantee Futaba's success if she can't land more roles. Follow these three girls and learn just what it takes to be a professional voice actor.

70/100A fun peek into some realities of being a voice actor in JapanContinue on AniListThis show is highly recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in voice actors in Japan, it covers some of the most important joys and challenges to being in the industry with great characters and lost of fun meta stuff to discover if you're interested.
It follows 3 new aspiring voice actors on their way to minor success. When this show was being made in 2015, the voice actors for the main cast are all actual newbies in the industry, the most notable one being Takahashi Rie, the voice of Emilia and Megumi. Needless to say, she is now one of the biggest names in the industry. Kouno Marika voicing the girl in green hair, is now known for her Silence Suzuka and Leyte Petra. The third main voice actor Nagaku Yuki unfortunately, has yet been able to find success. Real life meta like this almost perfectly illustrates the story in the show, it's like the show doesn't need any sequels because real life is its sequel.
Don't be fooled by the colorful and cute art style, it does depict a rather Darwinian voice acting industry, although understandably, we don't get any villains, all difficulties only come from realities of competition and not bad actors.
Did you know voice actors for your favorite (ok maybe not favorite but mostly minor) characters could be working part time in convenience stores?
Or even, placing herbs into bento boxes.
Most voice actors do not make much money and a great deal of personal interest and dedication is required to even have a shot at becoming a full time professional with good stable payYou do not need to know who these people are, the point is we have cameos of real-world voice actors playing themselves in the show, which is great fun. This is one of the best things in the show but also maybe it's biggest problem. The main cast would often run into these cameo characters like Nozawa Masako the voice of Son Goku. We of course get some funny reactions and references to their real life work, but also these cameos often have significant guidance and advice to give our cast of inexperienced voice actors, rather than simply showing up in the background.
Unfortunately I think this gimmick is slightly overused, since we have almost one cameo every episode, by the last couple episode it can get old. There is also a slight disconnect in art style between the main cast and the rest of the world really, it looks like they're three anime characters being transported to the real world or something, their design is a bit over the top too cartoonish.
bonus point for fun cameos that play important roles in the story.
